I don’t know what I was expecting, but it all just felt very “theory” to me. I didn’t feel like I had to memorize the actual exercises, but I did get the feeling I was expected to identify/memorize the types of progressions(cadence, 3, or 4 chord), as well as memorize the most commonly used progressions in certain types of songs.
After reviewing the melody, chord progression, & chord recognition sections again, I just felt for me it would be easier to just listen & play what notes I hear in order to play the song, & to not make note of the theory elements present. I already know that the notes I hear tell me what key I’m in, & what chords & other notes will be used. Aside from any occasional random rule breaking notes/chords that may be used.
For someone new to the concepts, it is definitely a very helpful course to get your ears trained to pick up the “clues” that make themselves known when you start to decipher a song. I’m just at the point where I can just listen & pick out the melody & figure the chords used.
