Here is my Strong Strong: Harmony Homework. I picked βDanielβ by Elton John. I did the Intro, Verse 1 & 2, Chorus & Instrumental. Just a basic feel analysis v super in depth.
I sort of got the sensation of slow rolling waves, with the storyline gradually pulling me into deeper waters, then quickly coming back closer to shore where you can touch bottom. From the Intro through the Chorus, it's all pretty predictable, repetitious, & less is more, with the tension always quickly releasing. The most tense & unpredictable part was the "Daniel" at the end of the Chorus.
The Intro starts @ home, same chord several times with a very repetitious walkdown that keeps getting higher, creating more tension as it goes up, with a lot of tension @ the last jump before it resolves & walks down to home.
Verse 1 starts @ home, same as the Intro, same chord for several beats, getting higher with same strike pattern, creating tension as the chords get higher till the most tension @ heading for "Spain". Feels like going on a journey with the slow raise pulling you along through the story till you get to the "point of the story" @ "Spain", then back down to home. There's more tension @ "God", then the familiar walk down back home.
Lots of repetition, less is more, & predictability through the Intro & Verses, but then get thrown into unexpected tension getting close to the end of the verse as the chords get higher & quicker @ "best place he's ever seen," then it resolves, lowers & comes back to home.
The Chorus starts away from home w/"Oh, Oh Oh" (1:29). Same repetitive chord pattern as verses only higher & getting higher with lots of tension @ 1:45 w/"Daniel," & a sharp sudden chord increase that quickly resolves & comes back to home into the instrumental with the same feeling of rolling waves as the Intro.
