Wow Val, talk about a packed schedule! Good for you for even getting in some piano time! It sounds like a lot of work, & definitely a full time job, but it also sounds fun to have a working farm. Side note, when I was in 3rd grade I won a cow milking contest during a field trip. The prize was a cookbook. I gave it to my mother, & when I got married she gave it back to me. I still have it! Congratulations on your son getting married!
That's exciting! I've been trying to get in scales & trying to riff a little in them, every day. I found a dice app for my phone, & I use it to select the chords in the key, & then I just take it from there. Sometimes I let the dice pick the key, but usually I pick the key I want to work on.
I'm just beginning to work out Handbags & Gladrags, & I'm trying to go back & work out the songs I've done in the past & forgotten, which is a lot. Plus the scales, & the riffing, & I also have 2 arrangements for a lot of songs depending on if it's an instrumental or a vocal arrangement . Plus I just started again this week with in person lessons to work on my singing & playing skills, now that things are opened up again. I find that the level of my piano playing since I starting adding in voice has diminished, which makes me sad & a little angry, because I need to "simplify" the songs to play them. I used to practice piano parts over & over to get them & have these cool arrangements, & now I constantly record & re-record songs trying to get the vocals & playing to come out well. I need to figure out a better system, or time management, or something. I think I'm too much of a perfectionist. My husband the guitarist just goes from song to song in one take without caring about how it's going. It's pouring here, & I'm procrastinating. Perfect day to improv & riff on some melancholy chord progressions!
