It is still on YouTube, except for the Peacherine Band (you should hunt them up, though cause they put on a great show). Ragtime fest has players from all over the world, and best of all, with this format, pianists had the cameras on their piano keys. I love Ragtime, though I admit, I’m at first inspired, then want to burn my piano in frustration. 😅

Bev that sounds so interesting, can't wait to check it out! NO DON'T BURN THE PIANO! haha. I haven't tried playing Ragtime apart from a few basic tunes a long time ago - I like to listen to people who are good at it though!

I talked about this in the livestream today - but the documentary 'Summer of Soul' is SO good! All about a music festival that was held at the same time as Woodstock, but in Harlem - the Harlem Cultural Festival in 1969 – and footage was just recovered.

WoW! watched this last night, awesome, so good that they have managed to preserve such an iconic time in History.
My personal favourite was David Ruffin (The Temptations) performing solo and singing, what an amazing voice. Along with the Beatles, I grew up listening to all genres of music, particularly Motown/Soul, and what about Gladys Knight & the Pips, Stevie Wonder simply amazing, Nina Simone on Piano. Simply awesome music and powerful moments in history, it would have been amazing to have been there.
My Saturday night movie was a treat.
It got me all nostalgic this morning and I went and found my old collection of Vinyl LP's I bought during the 60/70's which have been stored in a box for decades (Tapes, CD's and now streaming replaced them), however I think vinyl is becoming popular again.
Anyway, I still have my original vinyl (pic below) of the 69' Woodstock festival, and also the soundtrack vinyl from the movie Wattstax of the live benefit concert organised by Stax Records and held at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum 20 August 1972 for the 7th anniversary of the Watts riots. It is another iconic musical moment in history and a list of amazing musicians/singers.

Well worth checking out the Wattstax movie/doco which I think is available on a lot of platforms.

That photo of your vinyl is rad!!! I miss when music was a tangible object - I mean, it still is but less of it now. I have a small collection of vinyl that I've mostly been passed down from family over the years and I treasure them.

After watching Summer of Soul last night I clicked on Youtube to see if there were any interesting piano/music clips before I headed off to sleep. This Rock Piano person came up on the feed, with the cover song 'Have You Ever Seen The Rain' which is a song I like and can sort of play it on guitar, so it was interesting to click on his piano cover version.

OM gosh, WoW! pretty good, and all seem to be recorded live with him playing in a Shopping Mall. I ended up clicking on a few more of his covers, very entertaining. Lots of different covers, Alicia Keys, Cold Play, Elton John etc etc.
He lives in Brazil and his channel is 'Rock Piano'.

I forgot to share that I saw one of my favourite bands _Hiatus _Kaiyote a few weeks ago! Holy heck they were AMAZING. They're quite artsy & strange with some of their videos but they are incredible musicians and really interesting songwriters - I"ve heard the keyboardist is a tutor at the Melbourne music school - he's very good. WoW! just watched this, so cool, amazing creativity.
Have to confess, before I retired, probably would not have watched or listened to anything this creative (conventional, engineer, nuts & bolts, stay in comfort zone etc). The Beatles Sgt Pepper was probably my pinnacle of listening to creative music😃🤷‍♂️. Thankfully my two daughters are creative like their mum.
However, last couple of years with MU & Piano Picnic has opened up my music listening and willingness to explore, e.g. didn't like Jazz before, now I listen to it lots, this seemed more on that genre, bit like Scat singing?
This Band Hiatus Kaiyote were amazing, costumes & scene set were awesome, and the music/singing out of my radar but I enjoyed it.

MikeClarke Hi Mike, they are definitely very unique! I would tend to agree with you there, it is very much like scat singing - she comes up with these strange sounds that I've never heard anyone use in this context before. The costumes are incredible aren't they? I think they have a community of artists around them to create those scenes.
Sgt Pepper is right up there for creative music though! I think that's a good pinnacle.

You guys!! I went to a salsa concert in Mexico City last night - at the Mama Rumba nightclub, there was the most incredible band playing all the latin dance styles: piano, bass, drums, percussionist on bongos, three horns, three singers. So good, and everyone was dancing! I'll see if I can upload the video.

Wow, that sounds cool, I bet Mexico City was an eye opener. In the last year I have seen The Jordan Luck Band in Nelson (always awesome), Icehouse/Simple minds in Melbourne (amazing, but man was it hot). I'm off to Nelson again in a couple of weeks to see Dragon/Hello Sailor for another kiwi classics fix. Oh and if you ever get a chance to see Running in the Shadows (Aussie Fleetwood Mac cover band) they are incredible.

Ironic that 'Icehouse' would be too hot 😉 it's very hot and humid here too, but trying to stay out of the main heat of the day doesn't mesh well with wanting to get out and explore everything!
I love your commitment to live music! It's so important to renew that feeling of why we pursue playing it.
A good Fleetwood Mac cover band is hard to find so I'll remember that. We've had some come through our town in Raglan and I heard from others that they were very average.
Who would you say is your fave all-time live performer/concert?

Well it's tough to pick a favourite, Queen with Adam Lambert was great, I only wish I got a chance to see them when Freddy was around. So I'm going to pick Coldplay, I saw them in Auckland years ago, epic!

Lyle You and me both- I have never seen them live, but I did get to meet the guitarist Brian May when I worked in music publishing. That was exciting. Coldplay would be such a solid act- great songwriting.
